Trevor Noah Sticking With ‘The Daily Show’ Till At Least 2022

Comedy Central is making sure The Daily Show host Trevor Noah is going to be sticking around for the foreseeable future as they renew his contract till 2022!

In addition to extending his contract by 5 years, Noah will also be hosting some end-of-year Daily Show specials. “I’m thrilled to be continuing this amazing journey with both fans of The Daily Show and Comedy Central,” commented Noah in a statement. “It’s really exciting to renew this contract for either five more years or until Kim Jong Un annihilates us all… whichever one comes first.”

“Trevor makes us look smart on a daily basis and for that we’re grateful,” adds Comedy Central president, Kent Alterman.

Noah had some big shoes to fill when he took over as host from the much beloved Jon Stewart. It took a little while for him to find his feet, but has since become the only US late night show to actually grow its audience year on year, and sits in 3rd place behind US network big boys ‘The Late Show’ and ‘The Tonight Show’.

‘The Daily Show’ has, and continues to be, a superb springboard for comedic talent, with various correspondents going on to have huge careers on their own shows and in films. Steve Carell went on to star in movies and ‘The Office US’. Stephen Colbert hosted ‘The Colbert Report’ before landing the coveted host role on ‘The Late Show’. After guest hosting on ‘The Daily Show’ while Jon Stewart was away, John Oliver was poached by HBO to front ‘Last Week Tonight’. Samantha Bee and Jordan Klepper both now have their own shows on Comedy Central, and Jessica Williams, Rob Riggle, Olivia Munn, Aasif Mandvi, Al Madrigal, Ed Helms and many many others have all gone on to successful acting careers post their stints as correspondents.

The Daily Show‘ currently airs week nights on Comedy Central UK.
