Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson, Adria Arjona Join Amazon/BBC’s ‘Good Omens’
Casting for Amazon and the BBC’s adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s ‘Good Omens‘ stepped up a gear today as four new actors were announced as joining the series. Jack Whitehall (‘Fresh Meat’, ‘Bad Education’), Michael McKean (‘Better Call Saul’, ‘This is Spinal Tap’), Miranda Richardson (‘Harry Potter’, ‘Churchill’) and Adria Arjona (‘True Detective’, ‘Narcos’, ‘Emerald City’) will be working alongside Michael Sheen & David Tennant who take the lead roles.
According to ‘The Nice And Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch’, (the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except for Aziraphale (Sheen), a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley (Tennant), a fast-living demon – both of whom have lived among Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle – are not actually looking forward to the coming war… And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist…
Whitehall will be playing Newton Pulsifer aka Newt – an unfulfilled wages clerk turned witch-hunter – and McKean will take on the role of Sergeant Shadwell, the leader of the witch-finder army who sends him on his mission. Miranda Richardson will play Madame Tracy, the psychic medium and part-time courtesan who provides a helping hand to the pair as they try to save the world from Armageddon. Arjona will play Anathema Device, practical occultist and descendant of the ancient witch Agnes Nutter.
‘Good Omens’ is a 6-part series written by Neil Gaiman (‘American Gods’), who will also serve as showrunner, and directed by the highly acclaimed Douglas Mackinnon (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Sherlock’, ‘Outlander’, ‘Line of Duty’).
“I’m thrilled to join this amazing cast and creative team,” commented Michael McKean on joining the series. “I can’t think of anyone I’d rather enjoy Armageddon with than Gaiman, Pratchett, Mackinnon, and company.”
Additional cast for the series also includes Nina Sosanya (‘W1A’, ‘Marcella’, ‘Love, Actually’) as Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order of St Beryl, Ned Dennehy (‘Broken’, ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Dickensian’) as Duke of Hell Hastur and Ariyon Bakare (‘The Dark Night’, ‘New Blood’) as fellow Duke of Hell Ligur.
‘Good Omens‘ is a co-production between Amazon and the BBC, so will air in 2019 worldwide (including the UK) on Amazon Prime Video first, then come to BBC Two later.
