British star Russell Tovey has landed the role of Raymond Terrill, aka ‘The Ray’ in Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse it has been announced.
Tovey will voice the character for the animated series ‘Freedom Fighters: The Ray’ on US’s ‘CW Seed’ before moving into live action during this year’s huge crossover event between ‘Arrow’, ‘Flash’, ‘Supergirl’, and ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’. He is well known to audiences both sides of the Atlantic having played George in ‘Being Human’, Steve in ‘Him & Her’, Kevin in HBO’s ‘Looking’ and Harry Doyle in ‘Quantico’.
For those of you unfamiliar with the character of ‘The Ray’, he has been around in comic books since the 40’s, but it’s the version created by Jack C. Harris & Joe Quesada that first appeared 1992 which will be the basis of the character for the TV show. The official description of the tv version of the character says “Raymond ‘Ray’ Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a ‘genetic light bomb.’ The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”
The CW has also announced the crossover event will be titled ‘Crisis on Earth-X’.
