Channel 4 Are Developing A ‘V For Vendetta’ Series!

There is another comic book adaptation in the works, but given the book and the company behind it, this could be something very very special. Channel 4 has confirmed they are in the very early stages of developing a series based on Alan Moore and David Lloyd landmark comic book series ‘V For Vendetta’.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, it is set in a near-future UK which has been taken over by a fascist government. Whilst they maintain ‘order’ through concentration camps and killing anyone who opposes them, one man in a Guy Fawkes mask is determined to be a thorn in their side – “V”. He is an anarchist revolutionary who embarks on an elaborate and theatrical revolutionist campaign to bring down the fascist state and their “democracy”, inspiring the people to anarchy instead. One such inspired person is Evey Hammond, a young woman who becomes his protégé.

This is not the first time ‘V For Vendetta’ has been brought to our screens. In 2006 The Wachowskis wrote a film version, directed by James McTeigue, which starred Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving in the lead roles. Generally, the movie was well received, although, rather like Moore’s other major work ‘Watchmen’, a lot had to be stripped out to fit the story into 2 hours. This led to Moore himself asking for his name to be removed from the film. A tv version should let them stick closer to book and explore it’s subject in a lot more depth.

We reached out for comment from Channel 4, but as the ‘V For Vendetta’ tv series is so early in development, they couldn’t really tell us anything, other than confirming the show is in works. Channel 4 has a history of creating extremely interesting dark genre series, from ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Humans’, ‘Utopia’, and most recently the brilliant ‘Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams’.

We’ll let you know more about the ‘V For Vendetta’ tv series when we have it.
