Amazon Pick’s Up ‘The Boys’ Adaptation To Series From Creators Of Preacher & Eric Kripke

As we reported back in September, following the huge success of ‘Preacher’, Amazon has been working on an adaptation The Boys, another comic book from the same author, Garth Ennis. Now the streaming company have announced they’ve picked up the show for an 8 episode, straight-to-series, order.

Set in a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, sometimes you need someone to keep the superheroes in line when they become reckless… That’s where ‘The Boys’ come in. Billy Butcher, The Frenchman, Mother’s Milk, The Female and new recruit Wee Hughie, whose girlfriend as “collateral damage” a superhero brawl, are not a fan of the ‘capes’. Backed by the CIA, they form a team designed to control and, if necessary, take out those superpowered beings who overstep the mark.

The series is being exec produced and directed by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, who were also behind ‘Preacher’, with writing coming from ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Timeless’ creator Eric Kripke. Kripke will also serve as an exec producer and the showrunner. Original Film will co-produce the series with Amazon and Sony Pictures TV Studios.

“In a landscape saturated with superhero shows, ‘The Boys’ is the next evolution in this popular genre,” commented Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series at Amazon Studios. “With Eric, Evan, Seth and Original Film all behind this series, we are excited to adapt this popular comic, from the visionary minds of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, for television.”

The Boys‘ will start shooting in Spring 2018 with an eye on a 2019 release on Amazon Prime.
