Harley Quinn Animated Series Coming To DC’s New Digital Service

Harley Quinn is returning to her roots, as DC announce she will be getting a brand new animated series when the company launch their as-yet-untitled direct-to-consumer digital service (for the love of Batman, will you pick a name already!) next year.

The character of Harley Quinn was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, and first appeared in the seminal cartoon, ‘Batman: The Animated Series’, as a girlfriend for Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill.) Ever since she arrived on screen, audiences took to her, and DC ended up integrating the character into the comic books as well. Now a staple part of DC canon, the fan favourite has appeared in multiple video games, her own comic books, and of course, a live-action version in ‘Suicide Squad’, played by Margot Robbie.

DC has order 26 x 30 min episodes of the “adult animated action-comedy”, which will come from Warner Bros. Animation and will be exec produced by Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker, the showrunners on NBC’s short-lived ‘Powerless’ series. The series will not only feature Harley Quinn but a host of other DC heroes and villains, including Quinn’s closest “friend” in the DC Universe, Poison Ivy. Much like the current situation in the DC Rebirth comic book run, Harley has now broken up with Joker once and for all, and is determined to make it on her own, to become the “Queenpin of Gotham City.”

‘Harley Quinn’ marks the third series to be announced for DC’s “we really need a name for this” Digital Service. It will join the upcoming live-action ‘Titans’ series, based on Teen Titans, and a revamped version of the animated series ‘Young Justice’, titled ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’.

It’s still not entirely clear if the DC [Insert Awesome Name Here] Digital Service is going to be US only, or if it will be available worldwide, but we’ll bring you more updates as we get them.
