Netflix UK Lands The Rights To ‘Manhunt: Unabomber’, UK Premiere In December

Netflix has picked up the premiere rights to Discovery’s Manhunt: Unabomber the streaming service announced today.

The show tells the dramatic and gripping true story of the FBI’s hunt for the Unabomber, the deadliest serial bomber in history. The story focuses on FBI Agent and Criminal Profiler Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald (Sam Worthington – ‘Avatar’, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’), who pioneered the use of forensic linguistics to identify and ultimately capture the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski (Paul Bettany – ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘A Beautiful Mind’). This series features both Bettany and Worthington’s first major leading roles on U.S. television.

As a fresh-faced Criminal Profiler and the newest member of the Unabom Task Force (UTF), Fitz faced an uphill battle not just against the Unabomber – one of the most sophisticated and brilliant criminals in history – but also against the bureaucracy of the UTF itself as his maverick ideas and new approaches were dismissed by the system.

Whilst Netflix has the first-run rights, for those of you without the streaming service, Discovery UK still retains the linear tv right, and are expected to air the series in 2018.

We recently spoke to Erik Carlson, production designer on ‘Manhunt: Unabomber’, who gave us some insight into the meticulous level of detail the team behind the show went into to recreate Kaczynski’s infamous cabin, which served as his base of operations. You can listen to that interview here.

Manhunt: Unabomber‘ comes to Netflix UK on Tuesday, 12th December 2017.
