Competition: We Have 10 Copies Of ‘Asterix and the Chariot Race’ To Give Away!
We have a brand new competition for you, and it’s one quite close to my heart, as are giving away 10 copies of the recently released ‘Asterix and the Chariot Race‘ book!
I adore Asterix books. Whilst some people were read ‘Dr. Seuss’ or ‘The Gruffalo’ as bedtime stories, my dad would always read us Asterix… quite often failing to get through them without cracking up laughing, with little child me getting annoyed exclaiming “Dad! Stop it and keep reading!” I personally think he just read them to us as an excuse to read them himself, but I would say it was those books that kickstarted my love of comics. Without Asterix, there is a distinct possibility Geektown wouldn’t exist.
This year marks a milestone for the cartoon Gaul. Not only does original artist, Albert Uderzo, celebrate his 90th birthday, but it also marks the 40th anniversary of the passing of original author René Goscinny, whom together created the biggest selling French-language publishing phenomenon of all time. A phenomenon that has sold some 370 million albums in 110 languages and dialects.
‘Asterix and the Chariot Race’ is the 37th album to be published, the 3rd album by writer Jean-Yves Ferri in collaboration with cartoonist Didier Conrad. The duo previously produced ‘Asterix and the Picts’ in 2013 and ‘Asterix and the Missing Scroll’ in 2015, all under the watchful eye of Albert Uderzo.
The story starts as the roads in Italy are in disrepair. Defending his name, and to prove Rome’s greatness, Senator Lactus Bifidus announces a special one-off chariot race. Julius Caesar insists a Roman must win, or Bifidus will pay. Open to anyone from the known world, competitors arrive from far and wide, including Asterix and Obelix. With Bifidus secretly scheming, who will win this almighty chariot race?
‘Asterix and the Chariot Race’ is available to buy on Amazon right now, so even if you miss out on the competition, it’s worth picking up a copy. They make great stocking fillers for Christmas!
