CW Drops First Look At Nafessa Williams As Thunder In ‘Black Lightning’
We’ve been hearing a lot about the latest superhero show ‘Black Lightning‘, but today The CW dropped the first image of a super-suited character from the show other than the titular role.
Nafessa Williams (‘Code Black’) plays Anissa Pierce, daughter of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams – ‘Prison Break’), aka Black Lightning. However, she also has a superhero alter-ego – Thunder! Along with her side gig as a superhero, the passionate, quick-witted Anissa is also balancing the demands of medical school with her job teaching part-time at her father’s school. Her powers include invulnerability, the ability to increase the mass of her body while preserving volume (i.e. increasing her density), and the ability to create massive shock waves by stomping on the ground.
In the DC comic book series both Anissa and his other daughter Jennifer (played by China Anne McClain – ‘Descendants’, ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’) suit up to join their father as ‘Thunder’ and ‘Lightning’. We’ve yet to see any shots of McClain suited as ‘Lightning’, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
Written by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil (‘The Game’, ‘Being Mary Jane’) the series follows Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero who is forced back into the criminal bashing game when his daughter, Jennifer, and a star student get caught up with a local gang. He is an Olympic level athlete & skilled martial artist, who can also generate and manipulate electricity.
‘Black Lightning‘ comes to Netflix UK on 23rd January 2018.
