It stands to reason if you try something once and it works well, why not do it again! That seems to be the direction DC are going, as they announce Metropolis, a new Superman prequel in the same vein as ‘Gotham’.

The new show will come to the “as yet untitled” DC Digital Streaming Service, and will follow the story of intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane and billionaire genius Lex Luthor prior to Superman making an appearance in the city. It is said to follow the duo as they “investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.”

‘Gotham’ EPs John Stephens and Danny Cannon are the people behind it, with Stephens taking writing duties on the pilot, whilst Cannon directs. Both will also serve as exec producers with Stephens serving as showrunner. DC has ordered a 13 episode 1st Season which will land on the streaming service in 2019.

‘Metropolis’ will sit alongside the other previously announced shows coming to DC’s Digital “this needs a name” Service,  including ‘Titans’, which follows a young Dick Grayson (aka Robin, played by Brenton Thwaites), as he steps out of Batman’s shadow and forms a new superhero team. On the animated side, there will be a brand new ‘Harley Quinn’ series, and a revamped version of the popular ‘Young Justice’ cartoon, titled ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’.
