Suits Officially Renewed For Season 8 Without Patrick J. Adams (& Meghan Markle… Obvs…)
As we first posted back in back in November, it was rumoured Mike would be heading off into the sunset with Rachel if ‘Suits‘ got picked up for its 8th Season. Well, it has been, and it’s confirmed – Patrick J. Adams will be leaving with Meghan Markle at the end of this season.
Gabriel Macht (Harvey), Sarah Rafferty (Donna ) and Rick Hoffman (Louis) are all set to return. As anyone watching Season 7 may have suspected, Dulé Hill, who joined as recurring character Alex Williams last year, is getting bumped up to series regular for Season 8.
“Mike Ross has taught me a lot about commitment, hard work and the power of believing in yourself and I feel blessed that now we both get to walk out into the lives that we never dreamed we would actually be lucky enough to live,” commented Adams in a statement. “I’m excited to now step across the screen and become solely a fan of a show that I know has much more in store in the years to come. I wish everyone involved the best and am excited to see what kind of trouble they’ll get themselves in and out of from here on out.”
Chris McCumber, President of the USA Network who air the show across the Atlantic responded saying “While we’re excited for Season 8, everyone at USA will deeply miss Patrick and Meghan, and are grateful for the talent and commitment they brought to ‘Suits’ season after season. We wish each of them nothing but the very best.”
It would appear the decision to leave was partly to do with him not being sure where else they could take the character. “I had this voice in my head that said that we’ve told his story and if he hangs out longer, Mike is just going to be another lawyer on television,” he comments. There also was some pressure from being away from his now-wife (‘Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario) for so much time filming.
So, there you have it. ‘Suits’ renewed for Season 8 but without Mike or Rachel. Personally, I think the writing is strong, and can withstand losing 2 main characters at this point, as it’s become more of an ensemble show. I will miss Mike and Harvey’s banter though.
To catch the last of Mike and Rachel in ‘Suits‘ Season 7b, it should pop up on Netflix UK on Thursday, 29th March 2018 (around 8am), the day after the US airing.
