The Gina Torres ‘Suits’ Spin-Off Picked Up To Series!
Great news ‘Suits‘ fans! Gina Torres is back as Jessica Pearson in a brand new spin-off show! As we first reported over a year ago, USA Network was considering a brand new series which followed Jessica on a new career path. They have now confirmed it is going to series.
“Gina’s portrayal of Jessica Pearson as one of television’s strongest, most successful businesswomen has made a huge impact with fans,” commented Chris McCumber, president, entertainment networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “We can’t wait to explore this next chapter in the ‘Suits’ legacy – and a brand new world for Jessica.”
The new show used the – as yet unscreened – ‘Suits’ Season 7 finale as a “backdoor pilot” for the spin-off. It seems the network execs, who have seen it, were impressed and have given it the go ahead. The show centres around Jessica who is now living in Chicago. Forced to enter the dirty world of Chicago politics, she must rely on her legal wits and valiant relationships from Pearson Specter Litt to navigate this unknown territory. The ‘Suits’ Season 7 finale will see Harvey (Gabriel Macht), Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman), Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) and Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) head to the Windy City to help out their former boss.
“It was an extraordinary pleasure working with Gina on ‘Suits’ for six years,” adds ‘Suits’ creator Aaron Korsh. “Beyond her undeniable talent, she is an incredible partner and collaborator, and I always hoped we would work together again. I am sincerely grateful to USA and UCP for giving Dan Arkin, my producing partners at Hypnotic and me the opportunity to continue Jessica Pearson’s journey in this new series that will encapsulate all that our fans love about her and ‘Suits’ – but with its own distinct story that will be unique to the franchise.”
The upcoming second half of ‘Suits’ Season 7 will see the departure of Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle, one of whom is going to marry Prince Harry (I’ll let you guess which one.) The show has already been renewed for an 8th Season with the rest of the cast still on board. In addition, Dulé Hill, who was introduced early in the season as Harvey’s longtime friend Alex Williams, has been upped to series regular, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Katherine Heigl will be joining the cast.
‘Suits‘ returned to the UK to Netflix for Season 7, part 2 on Thursday, 29th March 2018.
