Jon Favreau To Write & Produce Live-Action ‘Star Wars’ TV Series

After having worked on Marvel with ‘Iron Man’ and traditional Disney with ‘The Jungle Book’, Jon Favreau is joining the Lucasfilm branch of the Disney Empire as he will exec produce and write a new live-action ‘Star Wars’ tv series!

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” commented Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

This actually isn’t the first time Favreau has dipped his toe into the Sarlacc Pit. Wearing his actor hat, he has previously taken roles in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ and can be seen on screen in the upcoming ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’.

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you,” adds a (presumably very excited) Favreau! “I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Disney’s collaborations with Favreau go back a decade, with the launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe as director of ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Iron Man 2’ and as an exec producer of the ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Avengers’ films for Marvel Studios. He then went on to direct and produce the hugely successful ‘The Jungle Book’, and is currently in production on the highly anticipated reimagining of ‘The Lion King’, set for release in 2019.

We still don’t have any idea what exactly this show will be, or how it will tie in to the larger Star Wars Universe. Maybe a bounty hunter series? Or something set in The Old Republic? “Jammin’ With Jabba”, a weekly music show? “Cooking With Kylo”, a culinary masterclass? Who knows (although, admittedly, those last two are less likely…)

We already knew a live-action series was on the cards, as Disney had already mentioned it would be coming to the Disney “as-yet-untitled-this-really-needs-a-name” Streaming Service due to land towards the end of 2019. Disney CEO Bob Iger also mentioned there were  “a few” ‘Star Wars’ shows in development, so expect to hear more announcement in the future.
