‘The Good Doctor’ Gets A Season 2 Renewal
Good news for those of you enjoying Freddie Highmore’s good doctoring on ‘The Good Doctor‘. It has been announced he will be back for a 2nd season.
The series follows Shaun Murphy (Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the scepticism of his colleagues. Aiding him along the way is his one advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff – ‘The West Wing’).
The show also stars Antonia Thomas (‘Misfits’, ‘Lovesick’) as Dr. Claire Brown, Nicholas Gonzalez (‘Pretty Little Liars’, ‘The Flash’) as Dr. Neal Melendez, Chuku Modu (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Snatch’) as Dr. Jared Kalu, Irene Keng (‘Harry’s Law’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) as Dr. Sarah Chen, Beau Garrett (‘Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’, ‘Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior’) as Jessica Preston, and Hill Harper (‘Homeland’, ‘Limitless’, ‘CSI: NY’) as Dr. Marcus Andrews.
The medical drama has been a huge hit for it’s US network ABC, being the second highest-rated show behind their other monster medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ It was actually doing so well out of the gate that the order to extend the first season came after only two episodes had aired!
“’The Good Doctor’s’ message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC,” commented Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment on the renewal. “This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season.”
Season 1 of ‘The Good Doctor‘ is currently airing Friday nights on Sky Living.
