‘Charmed’ Reboot Completes It’s Sister Casting
Whether you love it or hate the idea, the ‘Charmed’ reboot pilot is going ahead and has completed it’s line up of sisters.
This new take on the show comes from ‘Jane the Virgin’ creator Jennie Snyder Urman, with writers Jessica O’Toole & Amy Rardin, and is described as “fierce, funny, and feminist”. It centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches after the tragic death of their mother. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.
The three sisters will be played by Sarah Jeffery (‘Shades of Blue’, ‘Wayward Pines’), Madeleine Mantock (‘Into the Badlands’, ‘The Tomorrow People’), and Melonie Diaz (‘Fruitvale Station’, ‘The Breaks’).
Mantock will play the oldest sister Macy. She is a brilliant geneticist who is practical, driven, and has her whole world turned upside down when she discovers magic is actually real. Diaz plays Mel, the middle sister. She is a lesbian and a passionate outspoken activist but loses her way following the family tragedy. Finally, Jeffery takes the role of Madison, the baby sister. She’s a bubbly college freshman and is finding this whole magic deal a huge inconvenience to her partying, and her desire to get into an awesome sorority.
Other casting includes Ser’Darius Blain (‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’, ‘Jane by Design’) as Macy’s boyfriend Galvin. He’s the ideal guy – funny, chilled, in touch with his emotions, and up for following Macy across the country for her dream job. He’s an aspiring filmmaker but has yet to make it big. Always the optimist, he’s sure that break is just around the next corner.
Also joining the cast is Rupert Evans (‘The Man In The High Castle’) as Harry. He’s a handsome professor, described as grandiose, a raconteur with an infuriating charm and a mysterious interest in the three sisters… For those of you that know the original series, he’s their ‘Leo’, aka a Whitelighter – a guardian angel who protects and guides good witches to their destiny.
The ‘Charmed’ reboot is currently only a pilot for The CW at the moment. If it goes to series, it should land in the 2018/19 season (so Autumn 2018 at the earliest.) We’ll let you know when we hear more.
