CBS Finds It’s New ‘Cagney & Lacey’ – Sarah Drew & Michelle Hurd
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, CBS is currently working on a reboot of A the classic 1980s police drama ‘Cagney & Lacey’. Now they have found their two leading ladies – Sarah Drew & Michelle Hurd.
The original show was set in New York, but this new pilot, written by Bridget Carpenter (‘11.22.63’, ‘Parenthood’, ‘Friday Night Lights’), moves the action to L.A. and follows two female police detectives and friends trying to keep the streets of the City Of Angels safe.
Drew is set to play LAPD Detective Cagney, the role played by Sharon Gless in the original series. She is the more easygoing of the two cops, and protégée to Lacey. Hurd will obviously be playing the more experienced partner LAPD Detective Lacey, played by Tyne Daly in the original. In this version, Lacey is described as empathetic, straightforward, athletic, polished, and a former high school track & field champion.
This announcement comes only a week after Sarah Drew was let go after 9 years from medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ due to a major cast shakeup. Prior to joining Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, she appeared in ‘Everwood’, ‘Mad Men’ and even popped up in an episode of ‘Supernatural’.
Michelle Hurd should be a familiar face to you if you like US procedural dramas. She played Renee Grover in ‘Hawaii Five-0’, Gina Santos in ‘Lethal Weapon’ and Shepherd in ‘Blindspot’. She also appeared in ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ and played District Attorney Samantha Reyes in ‘Daredevil’.
‘Cagney & Lacey’ is still only a pilot at this point, but we’ll let you know if it gets picked up to series.
