Channel 5 Picks Up ‘The Detail’ & 2nd Run Rights For ‘Designated Survivor’ In The UK
Channel 5 has picked up two shows from Entertainment One which sees the network bring Canadian procedural drama ‘The Detail‘ to the UK for the first time, along with the 2nd run rights to Kiefer Sutherland presidential drama ‘Designated Survivor‘.
‘The Detail’ stars Shenae Grimes-Beech (‘90210’, ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’) as street-smart Detective Jacqueline ‘Jack’ Cooper, with keen investigative skills, but a messy personal life. Angela Griffin (‘Coronation Street’, ‘Lewis’) stars as Detective Stevie Hall, a sharp quick-witted interrogator who is Jack’s mentor – even while she balances the demands of work and her complicated family life. Wendy Crewson (‘Frankie Drake Mysteries’, ‘Revenge’) plays Staff Inspector Fiona Currie, the homicide unit’s formidable boss, who works overtime to secure justice, no matter what the cost. These three fiercely talented female homicide investigators work tirelessly to solve crimes while navigating the complicated demands of their personal lives.
‘Designated Survivor’ stars Kiefer as Tom Kirkman, the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who is nominated as the “Designated Survivor” (i.e. a member of government kept separate from everyone in case there is a terrible accident) during the State Of The Union address. When an explosion in Washington kills the current President and entire cabinet, Tom is thrust into the top job as Commander In Chief, a position for which he’s woefully underprepared, and it looks like that attack was only the beginning…
Although this is listed as being picked up by “Channel 5”, it’s not entirely clear which if the Channel 5 stations will air them (i.e. Channel 5, 5Star, 5USA etc…), but we will update their listings when we hear more. Just to reiterate, ‘Designated Survivor‘ will still premiere on Netflix UK, then come to one of the Channel 5 channels later.
