FX Finally Gives Pilot Order To Adaptation Of ‘Y: The Last Man’

It’s been two years in development at FX, but the US network has finally given a pilot order to an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s comic book series ‘Y: The Last Man’ it has been announced.

The story follows Yorick Brown, the last male human survivor of a planet-wide plague that simultaneously kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. The event not only kills the men, but causes disasters worldwide, such as cars crashing and plunging planes out of the sky as their male pilots drop dead, also killing millions of women and children across the globe.

As the planet descends into a post-apocalyptic nightmare, Yorick, accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.

The show comes from ‘American Gods’ Michael Green, but had been on hold whilst he was tied up with the Amazon series. However, when Green quit ‘American Gods’ along with Bryan Fuller late last year, Amazon’s loss became FX’s gain, and they pushed ‘Y’ back into production. Green, who wrote the pilot, will serve as showrunner along with Aida Mashaka Croal (‘Luke Cage’, ‘Turn’). The duo will also exec produce alongside Brian K. Vaughan, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (‘American Crime Story’, ‘Pose’).

The original ‘Y: The Last Man’ comic book series ran for 60 issues, picked up three Eisner Awards and the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, so they have some very solid material to work with!

‘Y: The Last Man’ is currently only a pilot, so may not go to series, but given the people behind this, we think it has a really good shot. We’ll bring you more as we get it.
