Amazon Prime UK Picks Up Marti Noxon’s Dark Comedy ‘Dietland’ To Air In June

Amazon Prime UK has picked up Marti Noxon’s upcoming AMC darkly comedic new series Dietland the streaming service announced today, and it will air just hours after the US.

Based on Sarai Walker’s 2015 best-selling, critically-acclaimed novel of the same name, the series follows Plum Kettle (Joy Nash – ‘The Mindy Project’, ‘Twin Peaks’) as she takes a journey to self-awakening while exploring a multitude of issues faced by women today – including patriarchy, misogyny, rape culture and unrealistic beauty standards. The 10 episode series looks into the life of Plum, a ghost-writer for the editor of one of New York’s hottest fashion magazines, as she struggles with self-image and embarks on the complicated road to self-acceptance. Julianna Margulies (‘The Good Wife’, ‘ER’) stars as Kitty Montgomery, owner of the magazine.

“Dietland is a riveting series – and the timing couldn’t be more relevant,” commented Jay Marine, VP Prime Video Europe. “We’re excited about offering our customers this brilliant series exclusively, alongside other shows that put strong women at their core, such as ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and ‘The Bold Type’.”

‘Dietland’ also stars Robin Weigert (‘Big Little Lies’) as Verena Baptist, Adam Rothenberg (‘Ripper Street’) as NYPD detective Dominic, Tamara Tunie (‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’) as Julia, Erin Darke, (‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’) as Leeta, Rowena King (‘Shut Eye’) as newscaster Cheryl Crane-Murphy, Will Seefried (‘The Deuce’) as Ben and newbies Ricardo Davila as Kitty’s assistant Eladio and Tramell Tillman as Plum’s best friend Steven.

The shows creator is Marti Noxon, whose work you may know from the brilliant ‘UnREAL’ (also on Amazon Prime, and I urge you to watch it!), ‘Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’, ‘Mad Men’, and, of course, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ & ‘Angel’. Interesting side note, the music for ‘Dietland’ comes from Noxon’s go-to composer and longtime friend of Geektown, Fil Eisler. The series is co-produced by Skydance Television and AMC Studios.

Dietland‘ will premiere Tuesday, 5th June 2018 on Amazon Prime UK, just hours after it’s US airing.
