‘Arrow’ Land New Showrunner For Season 7

For those of you bemoaning the direction DC show Arrow has been taking the last few seasons, this may be some welcome news. The emerald archer will have a new showrunner when it returns for Season 7.

Beth Schwartz will become sole showrunner for ‘Arrow’, replacing Wendy Mericle and Marc Guggenheim. Mericle is leaving the franchise entirely, whereas Guggenheim, who was also co-showrunner on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, will transition into a more backseat role as “executive consultant” on both shows. Phil Klemmer, who was co-showrunner on ‘Legends’, will take sole responsibility for that series from next season.

Schwartz is certainly no stranger to the Arrowverse. She started out assistant to Greg Berlanti on his show ‘Everwood’ back in 2002, then joined ‘Arrow’ as a writer on season 1. She went on to be promoted to co-producer, then co-exec producer from Season 5. Schwartz has written around 24 episodes of ‘Arrow’ so far and also served as consulting producer and writer on some episodes of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.

“We are all so incredibly thrilled to announce Beth Schwartz as the new showrunner of Arrow,” commented Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti. “She has been a source of some of the show’s most exciting and memorable moments from the beginning. Beth is a true leader and a captivating storyteller, and we all can’t wait for the audience to see what she and her team dream up as they take Arrow into its next big chapter.”

The CW recently announced it had renewed all the DC shows, including newcomer ‘Black Lightning’, for their respective next seasons.

Arrow‘ Season 6 is currently airing Tuesday nights at 8pm on Sky One.
