American Gods Season 2 Finally Starts Production

American Gods has finally started production on the much anticipated 2nd Season of the Neil Gaiman adaptation, and also confirmed it will launch in 2019.

A launch video posted Gaiman’s personal Twitter account shows the cast and crew on set at The House on the Rock and includes shout-outs from both Gaiman himself, protagonist Shadow Moon played by Ricky Whittle and cast member Yetide Badaki, who will return in her role as Bilquis.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, ‘American Gods’ stars Ricky Whittle (‘The 100’, ‘Austenland’) as protagonist ex-con Shadow Moon, Ian McShane (‘Deadwood’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’) as Mr. Wednesday, and Emily Browning (‘Sucker Punch’, ‘Legend’) as Shadow’s wife, Laura Moon. Season two will see the return of Pablo Schreiber (’13 Hours’, ‘Orange Is the New Black’) as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki (‘Aquarius’, ‘Masters of Sex’) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Tech Boy and Kristin Chenoweth, as Easter and the addition of some new characters as well.

Production on the 2nd Season was delayed a little due to showrunners Bryan Fuller & Michael Green leaving the series. Reports initially said this was to do with FremantleMedia Scripted Entertainment boss, Dante di Loreto, refusing to agree to the budget the duo had requested for the new season. However, Starz CEO, Chris Albrecht, then said that was not the case… Although, it should be noted neither of them now seem to be part of the show and Jesse Alexander (‘Hannibal’, ‘Lost’, ‘Heroes’) has taken over showrunning duties along with Gaiman himself.

Another change is that Gillian Anderson will not be returning as goddess Media, and they are recasting the part as ‘New Media’.

It looks like 2019 will be a great year for Gaiman on Amazon as excitement is also currently building for the Prime Original series Good Omens, based on the hugely-popular novel written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, which will launch on Prime Video around the world, also next year.

Season 1 of ‘American Gods’ is currently available in the UK exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for Prime or Prime Video members to stream or download and enjoy anytime, anywhere at no additional cost to a Prime or Prime Video membership.

American Gods‘ Season 2 comes to Amazon Prime Video in 2019.
