Fox Renews ‘Empire’ For Season 5

Fox has renewed musical drama Empire for a 5th season the US network announced yesterday.

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong’s drama stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson as heads of a family dynasty set within the glamorous and sometimes dangerous world of hip-hop music. The show revolves around the Lyon family and their media company, Empire Entertainment. The founder, Lucious Lyon (Howard), is the king of hip-hop, but his company and reign are constantly threatened by his family, including his ex-wife, Cookie (Henson), his sons, Jamal (Jussie Smollett), Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) and Andre (Trai Byers), and a volatile and competitive music industry.

‘Empire’ has dropped a little from its breakout rating when it launched in 2015, but still remains the networks 2nd highest rated series in the coveted 18-49 age bracket.

“Empire is as compelling, emotional and unpredictable as it ever was,” commented Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn. “We are so proud of our amazing cast, led by Terrence and Taraji, who deliver powerful performances week after week. We’d also like to thank our tremendous creative team – Lee, Danny, Brett, Ilene, Sanaa, Brian and Francie – whose inspired storytelling continues to create the unforgettable, jaw-dropping OMG moments that have always been signature to Empire.”

The show has managed to draw in an impressive list of guest stars over it’s run, playing both themselves and other characters, including Jennifer Hudson, Ne-Yo, Cuba Gooding Jr., Chris Rock, Ludacris, Timbaland, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and the legend that is Snoop Dogg.

Empire‘ Season 4 is currently airing Thursday nights at 10pm on 5star in the UK.
