The BBC has renewed its wind-swept adaptation of the ‘Poldark‘ novels by Winston Graham for a 5th Season it has been announced.
Adapted by Debbie Horsfield, the show stars Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark, as he returns from the American War of Independence back to his Cornish roots. Season 4, which has yet to air, will be based on ‘The Four Swans’ and ‘The Angry Tide’, the sixth and seventh books in the series, and will see our hero head to Westminster as an MP.
The announcement came at a screening of Season 4, Episode 1 for the BFI in London yesterday. Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays Demelza on the show, couldn’t attend due to being chased by aliens in a new adaptation of ‘War Of The Worlds’, but left the following message which was then uploaded to Twitter:
#Poldark fans, @ETomlinson has some exciting news from tonight’s screening of S4 episode 1. You don’t want to miss this announcement! pic.twitter.com/2IoyL4p8Cu

Rumours are circulating that Season 5 may be the show’s last, although they do still have five books to get through, so it would seem like an odd place to end it if that is the case. Each season tends to use one or two books, so there should be enough material for one or two more seasons after Season 5 if they do wish to carry on. Either that or Season 5 will be a major run through all five novels, but that seems like a stretch!
‘Poldark‘ Season 4 doesn’t officially have an air date yet, but all signs seem to be pointing to it arriving in early Summer 2018 (i.e. June-ish), the same as Season 3. We’ll update things when we know more.
