It seems Fox US are aiming for the title of the “most hated network” this season. After the cancellation of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ & ‘The Last Man On Earth’ yesterday, they’ve followed it up with the cancellation of ‘Lucifer‘.
Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, ‘Lucifer’ followed Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis – Miranda), the original fallen angel, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell. Retiring to L.A., he inadvertently teamed up with an LAPD detective (Lauren German – Chicago Fire) to help punish criminals.
Lucifer himself, Tom Ellis, broke the news on his Twitter account:
It has been the most amazing experience over the past 3 years playing Lucifer and falling in love with you, the fans. It fills me with great sadness to confirm the rumours that some of you have been asking. Fox has indeed cancelled #lucifer I’m so sorry guys. #gutted

DB Woodside, who played Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel also commented:
I’m too angry & heartbroken right now guys. I’ll have more to say later. But you ALL are absolutely amazing. Thank you. ?

You’re not the only one DB… This cancellation really hurt. Showrunner Joe Henderson added his thoughts on the matter:
So… yeah. #Lucifer has been cancelled. And it fucking HURTS. I loved this show so damn much and everyone put their heart and soul into it. Heartbreaking doesn’t begin to describe.
— Joe Henderson (@Henderson_Joe) May 11, 2018
He goes on to suggest if you’d like to vent your anger, feel free to tweet your thoughts to @FOXTV on the matter using the hashtags #Lucifer and #SaveLucifer. I would not like to be the person managing Fox US’s social media account over the last few days…
On top of that, news has also arrived that the network has also given ‘The Exorcist‘ the axe. Season 1 of the show followed two very different priests tackling a family’s case of horrifying demonic possession. Season 2 saw Alfonso Herrera (‘Sense8’) as Father Tomas Ortega & Ben Daniels (‘Rogue One’) as, now uncollared, priest Marcus Keane hit the road to hunt down evil.
Neither shows had the best ratings, however, with ‘The Exorcist’, that could partly be blamed on Fox’s scheduling of the series. The show also had been extremely well reviewed by critics.
What may be good news for some is Fox US has resurrected cancelled ABC Tim Allen comedy ‘Last Man Standing‘ for a 7th Season… Although, personally, it does feel a bit like them pouring salt into a festering open wound…
‘Lucifer‘ premiered on Amazon Prime in the UK with a linear tv broadcast later on Fox UK and ‘The Exorcist‘ premiered on Syfy UK.
