Fox Renews ‘Lethal Weapon’ For Season 3 With Seann William Scott Replacing Clayne Crawford

Fox has decided it’s not going to let the trouble with Clayne Crawford tank Lethal Weapon, and have renewed the show, adding Seann William Scott as the new co-lead with Damon Wayans. He won’t be playing Riggs though.

As I’m sure most of you are aware by now, Clayne Crawford was fired by the production company WBTV after a number of incidents on set where the actor had to be “disciplined several times over complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment.” However, this left them in the sticky situation of replacing one of the co-lead actors just as Fox were making a decision as to whether to pick up the show for a 3rd Season.

Seann William Scott will serve as a new character on the show who is partnered with Murtaugh (Wayans). Not wishing to give away spoilers, but that does fit in with where we leave Riggs in the shows Season 2 finale. It also makes it a little more palatable, as, despite his on-set antics, there was a lot of fan support for Crawford as Riggs.

This will be a first series regular role for Scott who is best known for his part in Stifler in the ‘America Pie’ franchise, the voice of Crash in the ‘Ice Age’ movies, and the film ‘Goon’.

“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” commented Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn. “Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

WBTV also released a statement saying “Warner Bros. Television has decided not to renew Clayne Crawford’s contract for Lethal Weapon,” and remarking it was not a decision they took lightly. Bear in mind, the show makes a sizable profit for the studio, and replacing a lead actor could have tanked the series. However, they have a zero-tolerance policy on inappropriate behaviour, so felt it ultimately was the only option.

Lethal Weapon‘ airs on ITV in the UK.
