BBC Releases Teaser Trailers For ‘Luther’ Season 5 & Jed Mercurio’s ‘Bodyguard’

BBC One released a couple of little trailers last night for two of their highly anticipated upcoming dramas – Season 5 of the brilliant Luther, and Bodyguard from ‘Line Of Duty’ creator Jed Mercurio.

When the moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare, DCI John Luther must once again confront the depths of human depravity. As a series of monstrous killings becomes ever more audacious, Luther and new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday (Wunmi Mosaku – ‘Guerrilla’, ‘Kiri’, ‘The End of the F***ing World’) are confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror.

But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect… and who to sacrifice. Whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him – and will change John Luther forever.

Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley and Patrick Malahide are all set to return for the four-part series as DSU Martin Schenk, Benny Silver and George Cornelius. New recruit Wunmi Mosaku, who won a Bafta for her performance in BBC One’s ‘Damilola, Our Loved Boy’ in 2017, joins the show as D.S. Catherine Halliday.

Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard tells the fictional story of David Budd (‘Game Of Thrones’ star Richard Madden), a heroic but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) of London’s Metropolitan Police Service. When he is assigned to protect the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes – ‘The Durrells’, ‘Line Of Duty’, ‘Spooks’), whose politics stand for everything he despises, Budd finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs. Responsible for her safety, is he actually her biggest threat?

Further cast includes Gina McKee (‘Line Of Duty’, ‘Our Friends In The North’), Sophie Rundle (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Jamestown’), Vincent Franklin (‘Happy Valley’, ‘Cucumber’) and Rowena King (‘Trauma’, ‘The Wrong Mans’).

BBC One has yet to give actual air dates for Luther and Bodyguard other than “coming soon”, so expect to see them pop up in the next few months of 2018.
