Netflix Pick Up Musical Drama ‘Mixtape’ For 10 Episode Series

Netflix has picked up rejected Fox pilot Mixtape the streaming service has announced.

We all have our own soundtracks. ‘Mixtape’ is a romantic musical drama that looks at the love stories connecting a diverse, disparate group of people in contemporary Los Angeles through the music that lives inside their hearts and minds.

That “disparate group of people” include Madeleine Stowe (‘Revenge’, ‘Twelve Monkeys’) as Margot, Jenna Dewan Tatum (‘Supergirl’, ‘American Horror Story’) as Joanna, Callie Hernandez (‘Alien: Covenant’, ‘La La Land’) as Nellie, Jahmil French (‘Let’s Get Physical’, ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’) as Dante, Marianne Jean-Baptiste (‘Blindspot’, ‘Without a Trace’) as Annette, Megan Ferguson (‘Hart of Dixie’, ‘Grace and Frankie’) as Gigi, Campbell Scott (‘House of Cards’, ‘Damages’) as Frank, and young actor Evan Whitten as Barry. The role of Sam, which was played in the Fox pilot by Raul Castillo, is to be recast.

The show comes from Josh Safran, creator and producer of ‘Quantico’. He’s no stranger to musical dramas though, having served as showrunner on the 2nd Season of the wonderful ‘Smash’. Safran will write the new series and exec produce along with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle and Ali Krug for Annapurna Pictures in association with 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios.

This marks the 2nd pick up from Annapurna Pictures by Netflix as they are the people behind the upcoming Coen brothers anthology ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’, which was also taken by the streaming service.

No news yet on when Mixtape will air on Netflix. We would think it’ll be late 2018 at the earliest, but could easily be 2019. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
