Netflix Releases First Look Photo Of ‘The Umbrella Academy’, Coming In 2019
Netflix has released a photo giving us the sneakiest of peeks at their upcoming adaptation of ‘The Umbrella Academy‘, and also revealed the show will arrive in 2019.
Based on the popular, Eisner award-winning comics and graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way (‘My Chemical Romance’) and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, the show is a live action series that follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes, ‘The Umbrella Academy’. The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and The White Violin work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities.
Published by Dark Horse Comics, the comic series garnered much praise from fans and critics alike for its alternate and twisted take on the superhero genre.
If you’re trying to work out whose who in the picture:
1 is Tom Hopper (‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘Merlin’) as Luther (aka Spaceboy)
2 is David Castañeda (‘Switched at Birth’, ‘Jane the Virgin’) as Diego (aka The Kraken)
3 is Emmy Raver-Lampman (‘Hamilton’, ‘SpongeBob Squarepants The Musical’) who will portray Allison (aka The Rumor)
4 is Robert Sheehan (‘Fortitude’, ‘Misfits’) who takes the role of Klaus (aka The Séance)
5 is Aidan Gallagher (‘Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn’) who appropriately plays Number Five (aka The Boy)
7 is Ellen Page (‘X-Men’, ‘Inception’) who plays Vanya (aka The White Violin)
You might notice the number 6 is missing from that line up, and that’s Ben, aka The Horror. There is a plot reason for that, which I won’t go into here for fear of spoilers, but the info is out there online if you want to go and look.
The script comes from Jeremy Slater (‘The Exorcist’ tv series, ‘Fantastic Four’), with Steve Blackman (‘Legion’, ‘Fargo’, ‘2018 Altered Carbon’) serving as exec producer and showrunner. Bluegrass Television are producing the series with Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg exec producing for Dark Horse Entertainment.
‘The Umbrella Academy‘ comes to Netflix in 2019.
