It seems no genre show is complete these days without the addition of an ex-Smallville cast member! With Tom Welling popping up on ‘Lucifer’, Erica Durance and Sam Witwer on ‘Supergirl’, and Aaron Ashmore on ‘Killjoys’ there is no shortage of work for the former residents of Kansas. Now, Laura Vandervoort has signed on to Netflix’s upcoming vampire drama V-Wars.

‘V-Wars’, which has been given a 10-episode straight-to-series order by the streaming service, stars ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder as Dr Luther Swann, who finds himself in a world of untold horror when a millennia-old bacteria transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes – ‘Arrow’, ‘Continuum’), into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. The disease starts to spread transforming more people and fracturing society into opposing camps. On one side the “normal” humans, on the other, a growing number of “vampires”. Swann must race against time to understand what is happening while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of his new brethren.

Along with Vandervoort, it’s also been announced that Kyle Breitkopf (‘The Whispers’) and Kimberly-Sue Murray (‘Crimson Peak’) have joined the cast, alongside previously announced castmember Jacky Lai (‘Beyond’). Vandervoort will play a character called Mila, with Breitkopf taking the role of Dez and Murray portraying Danika.

Laura Vandervoort starred as the Kara/Supergirl in ‘Smallville’, but also went on to guest star as the villain Indigo in CW’s ‘Supergirl’. Since then she has played the werewolf Elena in ‘Bitten’, and starred in the diamond dealer drama ‘Ice’. Young actor Kyle Breitkopf starred in sci-fi drama ‘The Whispers’ and the US version of ‘Being Human’, whilst Kimberly-Sue Murray has popped up in episodes of ‘Killjoys’, ‘The Lizzie Borden Chronicles’, and also ‘Being Human US’.

The original ‘V-Wars’ novel was written by acclaimed New York Times best-selling author and comic book writer Jonathan Maberry. Brad Turner (‘Stargate’ franchise, ‘The Shannara Chronicles’, ’24’) will direct the pilot and exec produce the show. William Laurin and Glenn Davis (‘Aftermath’, ‘Missing’) will serve as showrunners.

No news yet on exactly when V-Wars will come to Netflix, but we’d guess it probably won’t be until 2019.
