The fifth season of Vikings gave us so far, a lot of new territories and views of that ancient world. Either if we’re talking about the conquests in the Mediterranean, Floki’s trip to Iceland or the spiritual bishop that is also a fighter, everything is a new prospect that made the show even more dynamic, if that was possible. However, the mid-season break saw the action return to Kattegat where ‘the sons of Ragnar’ face each other in one of the greatest battles the show has ever seen. So, what can we expect from the second half of Season 5 and Season 6?
What We Know So Far
After being driven from Kattegat in the last aired episode, Lagertha, Bjorn and Ubbe are preparing to fight back against Ivar. Certainly, the comeback of Rollo to help his nephew overthrow Largetha and take Kattegad won’t be forgotten and we’re in store for some serious revenge. A hint to what’s to come was presented in the trailer that participants of the San Diego Comic-Con were able to witness first hand.
In the three-minute clip, you can see that Kattegat looks very different from the last time fans were able to take a look. With Ivar in charge, nobody seems happy or even content with the situation. However, taking into consideration that he has proven several times that he’s not the softest ruler, it’s more than understandable.
Another important piece of the puzzle that is the next season of Vikings is Ivar’s brother, Hvitserk. The only one that decided to remain and fight alongside Ivar seems to hate his decision and makes it very clear that he doesn’t trust his brother. Even more than that, he switches allegiances and fights at Bjorn’s side. We’re not certain how this decision will impact the upcoming war, however, it’s going to be huge.
Rollo is Back
Another huge part in the upcoming war and episodes of Vikings is the return of Rollo, Ragnar’s brother. A lot of time has passed since Rollo left Kattegat to fight against the francs and now he has his own kingdom in Normandy and that makes him even more unpredictable. It’s not at all clear what Rollo’s plans are in the region and how the relationship between him and Ivar could evolve, however, one thing is clear. We won’t see any of the berserker Rollo we witnessed in the previous seasons. He is older and seems a lot wiser but there’s a lot of unfinished business for him to attend.
Love and Death
Another very interesting pressure point can arise from the strange relationship between Torvi, Bjorn and Ubber. It’s a known fact for Vikings to share their women, however, in this case the brother might not be able to see eye to eye. Bjorn left Torvi and she found love with Ubbe straight away. We will have to wait and see if that will lead to an internal conflict in Bjorn and Lagertha’s side or if they will manage to sort things out without getting physical.
Sadly, there’s still quite some time until Vikings return on TV and until then all we can do is speculate. However, there are quite a lot of thing to look forward to. Ivar is not at all satisfied with taking Kattegat since his biggest desire was to kill Lagertha in the process, the people of Kattegat will more than likely try to overcome their ruler and it’s interesting to see what Rollo has to say about it.

No matter how things will turn out to be, the Vikings fans can rest assured knowing that Season 6 is already confirmed and underway.
