‘The Middle’ may have come to an end, but US network ABC are looking at giving the character of Sue Heck her own show it has been announced.

The currently untitled spinoff would see Eden Sher return to the role of twentysomething eternal optimist Sue Heck as she leaves the small town of Orson to navigate the ups and downs of a career and young adulthood in the big city of Chicago. Cue the Sue happy dance!

The series would be a single camera, half-hour comedy, written by ‘The Middle’ creators Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline with Warner Bros TV as the studio.

The main show ran for 9 Seasons, and follow the story of a middle-aged couple and their middle-class family, living in the middle of the country in Orson, Indiana. Eden Sher picked up a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as the always optimistic middle daughter Sue.

The spin-off is currently only a pilot for ABC, so may not go to full series. If the network does pick it up, it would mark the 3rd comedy spin-off series from the network recently, following in the footsteps of ‘Black-ish’ spin-off, ‘Grown-ish’, and ‘The Goldbergs’ spin-off, ‘Schooled’.

We’ll let you know when we hear more.

UPDATE (22/11/18): The pilot is not moving forward.
