The CW has put into development a new dark comedy series based on ‘The Lifeboat Clique’ novel by Kathy Parks it has been announced.

The series comes from ‘Jane the Virgin’ co-executive producer Katie Wech, and follows a group of teens from diverse backgrounds and social groups who are swept out to sea when a freak tsunami hits their Malibu house party. Whilst the place where they wind up is new, the high school politics and social hierarchies that emerge are not. From the wreckage, an unlikely leader emerges… A social outcast who has spent most of high school despising her fellow castaways, and now must master the social system she loathes if she wants to survive.

Katie Wech will exec produce along with uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed via Jerry Bruckheimer Television. CBS TV Studios will produce the show alongside Bruckheimer TV.

Along with ‘Jane the Virgin’ Wech’s other writer/producer credits include ‘Star’, ‘Rizzoli & Isles’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’, and ‘The Secret Circle’.

‘Lifeboat Clique’ is currently “in development”, but we’ll let you know if we hear more.
