Now Damon Wayans Quits ‘Lethal Weapon’…

So… Lethal Weapon has not only lost Riggs, it’s now losing Murtaugh as well. Damon Wayans made the announcement on video to the website EUR earlier today (you can see the video below).

He comments in the report that he is “a 58-year-old diabetic and I’m working 16-hour days,” citing that as one of the reasons. However, he also adds “Last week my mother had surgery, my daughter had surgery, and I had to look them both in the eye and say ‘I can’t be there’. It’s hard for me to play this loving, supportive father, husband, friend on TV, and be the guy in life that is telling everyone, ‘I can’t, I have to work.'”

So it really sounds like the schedule for the show is getting to him more than anything else. He goes on to say, he will be on the show for the current 13-episode run, which finishes in December, but that will be it, regardless of whether Fox does decide they want more. He’s announcing it now, to give them time to find a replacement, should they need to.

As most of you will be aware, Seann William Scott has been introduced as Detective Wesley Cole this season following the firing of Clayne Crawford by the production company WBTV after a number of incidents on set. Fox and WBTV will now have to decide if they want to try and continue on, or if this will be it for the show.

Over on this side of the pond, it would seem that ITV, who broadcast seasons 1 and 2 have yet to make a decision on whether to pick up the 3rd season of ‘Lethal Weapon’ or not. ITV do still have first refusal on optioning the series, should they wish to, but the decision is still up in the air. This announcement probably isn’t going to help matters…

We’ll let you know when we hear more. You can check out the video of Wayans making the announcement below.
