NBC Developing A Female-Led ‘Grimm’ Spin-Off Series

‘Grimm’ could be making a comeback to TV in a new form, as NBC put into development a new spin-off show with a female Grimm as the lead.

The new show would build off the mythology of the original series and will feature returning fan favourites while also introducing new characters, new dangers and new mysteries. This new take comes from writer/producer Melissa Glenn, whose previous work includes ‘Leverage’, ‘Hawaii Five-0’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Zoo’.

The original series, which ended in 2017, starred David Giuntoli as Detective Nick Burkhardt, who learnt he is descended from a long line of ‘Grimms’ – people that can see all the mythological creatures, know as ‘Wesen’, that hide amongst us for what they really are. Some, such as his friends Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) & Rosalee (Bree Turner), are friendly. Other… not so much… A Grimm’s duty is to hunt down the bad ‘Wesen’, and help keep law and order for both the human and ‘Wesen’ worlds.

Original series producers, Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner, would exec produce through their Hazy Mills production company with Melissa Glenn. David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, who co-created the series, would serve as consulting producers.

We know people have mixed feeling about redoing old shows, but it’s nice to see they are planning this as a spin-off, rather than some form of reboot. It will be interesting to see if they go for an entirely new character as the lead, or whether they decide to use the one female Grimm in the current Grimm-verse we know about, Theresa “Trubel” Rubel, played by Jacqueline Toboni.

The ‘Grimm’ spin-off is currently only in development, but we’ll let you know if and when we hear more.
