Channel 4 Sets November UK TV Premiere Date For ‘The First’

Sean Penn led space drama The First will arrive in early November Channel 4 has announced.

Penn leads an ensemble cast in this near-future drama about a crew of astronauts attempting to become the first humans on Mars. Under the direction of visionary aerospace magnate Laz Ingram (Natascha McElhone – ‘Designated Survivor’, ‘Californication’), the crew contends with peril and personal sacrifice as they undertake the greatest pioneering feat in human history.

The show, which comes from ‘House of Cards’ creator, Beau Willimon, focuses not only on the astronauts but also on their families and loved ones, as well as the ground team on Earth.

Along with Penn and Ingram, the cast includes, LisaGay Hamilton (‘The Practice’), Hannah Ware (‘Boss’), Keiko Agena (‘Better Call Saul’, ’13 Reasons Why’), James Ransone (‘The Wire’) and Melissa George (‘Home & Away’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Hunted’).

The drama is a co-production between US streaming service Hulu and Channel 4. Willimon serves as executive producer alongside his producing partner Jordan Tappis under their Westward Productions banner. ‘The First’ is co-financed by Hulu, Channel 4, IMG and AG Studios.

The First‘ will premiere Thursday, 1st November 2018 at 9pm on Channel 4.
