BBC Releases The First Full Trailer For ‘Luther’ Season 5

by Dave Elliott

DCI John Luther is back as Season 5 of Luther returns to the BBC in 2019.

When the moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare, DCI John Luther must once again confront the depths of human depravity. As a series of monstrous killings becomes ever more audacious, Luther and new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday are confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror.

But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect… and who to sacrifice. Whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him – and will change John Luther forever.

The drama sees Idris Elba don “the coat” once again is DCI John Luther, along with Dermot Crowley as Detective Superintendent Martin Schenk, Michael Smiley as Benny Silver and Patrick Malahide as George Cornelius. New cast this year include Wunmi Mosaku (‘The End of the F***ing World’, ‘Guerrilla’) as Detective Sergeant Catherine Halliday and Hermione Norris (‘Cold Feet’, ‘Spooks’) as Dr Vivien Lake. In a “blink and you’ll miss it” shot, the trailer also hints at the return of another extremely popular character from Luther’s past…

The BBC hasn’t yet officially set a premiere date for Luther‘ Season 5, but the drama is expected to land at some point over the festive period (so late 2018/early 2019).
