Netflix Renews ‘Narcos: Mexico’ For Season 2

Narcos: Mexico will return for a 2nd Season Netflix has announced, only weeks after Season 1 aired on the streaming service.

After the huge success of the original ‘Narcos’ series, ‘Narcos: Mexico’ moves the drama from Columbia to explore the origins of the modern drug war in Mexico. Beginning at a time when Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers, the action follows the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s.

Season 1 saw Diego Luna star as Félix Gallardo, boss of the Guadalajara Cartel, whilst Michael Peña took the role of DEA agent Kiki Camarena, the man trying to stop him. Kiki moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, but quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined. As Kiki garners intelligence on Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come.

The first season also starred Alyssa Diaz, Joaquín Cosio, Matt Letscher, and Aaron Staton. However, I don’t think it’s giving too much away to say that I wouldn’t expect all of the Season 1 cast to return…

The drama is produced by Gaumont Television for Netflix. Eric Newman is Executive Producer and showrunner. José Padilha, Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard are Executive Producers.

Narcos: Mexico‘ Season 1 is available to watch on Netflix right now.
