Netflix Gives Series Order To Mindy Kaling Coming-Of-Age Comedy

Netflix has handed a 10-episode series order to a new coming-of-age comedy from Mindy Kaling the streaming service has announced.

Inspired by Kaling’s own childhood, the series will follow the complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl. The show is co-created, co-written and exec produced by Kaling alongside ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘The Mindy Project’ writer, Lang Fisher.

Kaling is best known for creating her previous series, ‘The Mindy Project’, which saw the writer/actress star as a successful doctor trying to balance her personal and professional life. Since then, she has been working on a mini-series for Hulu based on the classic Richard Curtis movie ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’. Prior to that, she co-created the short-lived series ‘Champions’ and starred in the US version of ‘The Office’.

Lang Fisher, who is co-creator of the as-yet-untitled coming-of-age comedy, is currently a writer and co-exec producer on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’. She previously worked with Kaling on ‘The Mindy Project’, and started her writing career on ’30 Rock’.

Joining Kaling and Fisher as exec producers on the new show are Howard Klein (‘The Office US’, ‘The Mindy Project’, ‘Parks and Recreation’), David Miner (’30 Rock’, ‘Master of None’). The new series marks Kaling’s first show for Netflix, having previously been loyal to Hulu after they rescued ‘The Mindy Project’ when it was cancelled by Fox.

No news on a title, air date or cast for the Mindy Kaling Netflix show yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
