Netflix Officially Renews Ricky Gervais’ Utterly Brilliant ‘After Life’ For Season 2
Netflix has officially handed a 2nd Season renewal to Ricky Gervais’ utterly brilliant dark comedy ‘After Life‘ the streaming service has announced today. The comedian had already remarked he was working on a second season, but Netflix hadn’t officially made the announcement until today.
The series follows Tony (Gervais), a man who had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power – not caring about himself or anyone else – but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.
“I have never had a reaction like this before,” commented Ricky. “It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”
If you’ve not seen the show, it’s possibly Ricky’s most interesting and poignant work to date. Equal parts funny and heartbreakingly tragic, it’s the type of show which could only really come from someone like Gervais.
