‘Barry’ Gets A Season 3 Renewal

Barry will be back for a 3rd Season US network HBO has announced.

‘Barry’ stars Bill Hader as a depressed, former marine turned low-rent hitman from the Midwest. He’s tired of the repetitive nature of whacking marks, day in, day out and needs a change. As he pursues one target into a drama class in LA, overseen by acting guru Gene Cousineau (the legendary Henry Winkler), Barry becomes smitten with the acting bug – not to mention one of the students.

The new season sees Barry attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. But while Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place?

‘Barry’ also stars Stephen Root as Barry’s handler, who is alarmed to contemplate a future without his primary source of income; Sarah Goldberg as a dedicated acting student who becomes the object of Barry’s affection; and Anthony Carrigan as an unfailingly polite mobster.

The renewal doesn’t come as a huge surprise given the show received 3 Emmys for its 1st Season last September, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Bill Hader); Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Henry Winkler); and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.

The series was created by Alec Berg & Bill Hader who also exec produce alongside Aida Rodgers. Liz Sarnoff serves as consulting producer, with Emily Heller as supervising producer.

Barry‘ Season 2 is currently airing Wednesday nights at 10:45pm on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
