Hulu today released the first trailer for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ Season 3, and it looks like revolution is in the air.
Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values’.
As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
If you remember the end to Season 2, Offred/June had the chance to escape but chose to stay behind and fight back. The 13-episode 3rd season follows June’s resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead and her struggle to strike back against overwhelming odds. Season 3 promises startling reunions, betrayals, and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead that will force all characters to take a stand, guided by one defiant prayer: “Blessed be the fight.”
Joining Moss in the series are Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella, Samira Wiley and Bradley Whitford.
‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ Season 3 premieres returns June 5, on Hulu in the US. Channel 4 air the series in the UK, and haven’t yet set a date. However, it usually premieres around a month after the US, so we should see it at some point in July 2019 in the UK, but we’ll let you know when we have a confirmed UK premiere date.
