Showtime Renews ‘Billions’ For Season 5

Axe and Chuck will return once again as US network Showtime renews the utterly brilliant Billions for a 5th Season.

‘Billions’ stars Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti in a duo of tour-de-force performances as shady hedge fund manager Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod and equally shady District U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades. The first few seasons have seen Axe and Rhoades going head-to-head as they try to bring each other down. The 4th Season twists that dynamic, as the duo now have to work together against common enemies.

“Billions’ addictive examination of wealth and power is supremely entertaining, smart and surprising,” commented Gary Levine, Co-President of Entertainment at Showtime. “We’re loving Season 4 and can’t wait to buckle up for the wild ride that [showrunners] Brian [Koppelman] and David [Levien] and their brilliant cast have in store for us in Season 5.”

Season 1 saw Axe Capital nearly destroyed by Rhoades’ attacks, and Season 2 saw Axe hit back, using his considerable resources to exact revenge on the Machiavellian U.S. Attorney. Season 3 had Chuck and Bobby in a world that has shifted on its axis. Both men were still determined to destroy the other, but they also had to battle for their own survival amid new forces and powerful enemies. By the end of the last encounter, Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), Chuck’s wife and Axe’s performance coach, had managed to convince the boys that working together against the new threats would be better than trying to tear each other down.

In Season 4, which is currently airing on Sky Atlantic, threats come at Chuck and Bobby from all sides. Axe is dealing with Taylor’s (Asia Kate Dillon) new competing hedge fund. He also has the minor issue of the homicidal Russian billionaire Grigor Andolov (John Malkovich) to deal with. Chuck is still tangling with Waylon ‘Jock’ Jeffcoat (Clancy Brown), the Attorney General of the United States. Ambition and betrayal have long been at the heart of the show, and this season all the characters find out exactly how high a price they’ll have to pay to satisfy those needs.

The series also stars Toby Leonard Moore (Brian Connerty), David Costabile (Wags), Condola Rashad (Kate Sacker), Kelly AuCoin (“Dollar” Bill), Jeffrey DeMunn (Charles Rhoades) and Malin Akerman (Lara Axelrod). They are joined by new guest stars Kevin Pollak (‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’), Jade Eshete (‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’), Nina Arianda (‘Hannibal’, ‘Goliath’), and Samantha Mathis (‘The Strain’, ‘Under the Dome’) who plays Sara Hammon, the new COO of Taylor Mason Capital.

Billions‘ Season 4 is currently airing Wednesday nights at 9pm on Sky Atlantic & NOW TV.
