CBS Cancels Comedies ‘Life In Pieces’, ‘Happy Together’, ‘Fam’ & ‘Murphy Brown’
And the slaughter continues, this time with CBS taking an axe to its current comedy line-up. They have cancelled ‘Life In Pieces‘ after 4 Seasons, and are no longer ‘Happy Together‘ with the Damon Wayans Jr freshman series (it’s not a good day to be a Wayans…) They have also cancelled Nina Dobrev comedy ‘Fam’, and revival of ‘Murphy Brown’, neither of which aired in the UK.
‘Life In Pieces’ aired on Amazon Prime in the UK, and followed the eccentric Short family, with each show split into four short stories from different family members, each showing their version of events. The all-star cast includes Colin Hanks (Dexter, Fargo, and son of Tom), James Brolin (‘Catch Me If You Can’, ‘Castle’ and father of Thanos – Josh Brolin), Dianne Wiest (‘Law & Order’, ‘Bullets Over Broadway’, ‘The Lost Boys’), Betsy Brandt (‘Breaking Bad’), Thomas Sadoski (‘The Newsroom’), Zoe Lister-Jones (‘New Girl’), Dan Bakkedahl (‘Veep’, ‘The Mindy Project’), and Angelique Cabral (‘Enlisted’).
‘Happy Together’ aired it’s one season on E4 in the UK and followed a 30-something couple, tired of their mundane life, start to reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when a young pop star who is drawn to their super-normal suburban life, moves in. The show came from ‘The Last Man on Earth’ writer Tim McAuliffe and starred Damon Wayans, Jr. (‘New Girl’), Amber Stevens West (‘Ghosted’), Felix Mallard (‘Neighbours’), Stephnie Weir (‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’), and Chris Parnell (‘Archer’, and voice of Jerry in ‘Rick and Morty’). Ben Winston and Harry Styles exec produced the series which was very (VERY) loosely inspired by the time when Harry lived in Ben’s attic during the height of One Direction’s success.
All four of the cancelled shows had been at the bottom end of CBS’s ratings, so it’s no great surprise that they got the cancellation axe. ‘Life In Pieces’ was the longest running of the four, but had dropped… a lot… in the ratings in its 4th Season.
‘Life In Pieces‘ 4th (and now final) season is midway through it’s run, and can be found on Amazon Prime UK right now with new episodes going up weekly. ‘Happy Together‘ had one season, which aired on E4 in the UK.
