‘Star’ Cancelled After 3 Seasons

We have a couple more renewal and cancellations today which landed late in the pre-Upfront Friday night massacre. FOX has stopped the Star fame-train, as the ‘Empire’ adjacent music drama is cancelled after 3 Seasons.

‘Star’ followed 3 young singers as they attempt to make it in the music business. Star (Jude Demorest), a tough-as-nails young woman who came up in the foster care system, tracked down her sister, Simone (Brittany O’Grady), and her Instagram bestie, Alexandra (Ryan Destiny), and together, the trio journeyed to Atlanta with the hope of becoming music superstars.

The series also starred Queen Latifah (‘Bessie’, ‘Bringing Down The House’) as Carlotta, a surrogate mother to the young crew, and Benjamin Bratt (’24: Live Another Day’, ‘Law & Order’) as Jahil, a down-on-his-luck talent agent looking to revitalize his career.

Whilst the show had been fairly solid in its ratings in the first two seasons, the 3rd Season had taken a bit of a nose dive. That, coupled with the fact it is a fairly expensive show to produce and had not sold well internationally, seemed to be the main factors leading to the cancellation decision.

Star‘ aired on 5Star in the UK. We are still waiting to see if the channel airs the 3rd, and now final, season.
