Whilst we had our appetite whetted with the special ‘Bandersnatch’ interactive feature at the end of last year, but it is now time to return to Charlie Brooker’s futuristic satire Black Mirror for a 5th Season, featuring 3 new episodes.

‘Black Mirror’ is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.

Whilst we don’t yet know the titles or have a synopsis of these Season 5 episodes, we do know some of the cast. MCU’s Falcon, Anthony Mackie, pop star/actress Miley Cyrus, ‘Sleepy Hollow’s Nicole Beharie, and ‘Sherlock’s Andrew Scott, all feature in the new trailer. Other cast includes Topher Grace, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Damson Idris, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.

The trailer depicts Miley Cyrus playing to a crowd of fans, an Alexa-style doll who (we’re pretty sure) is not as benign as it first appears, and Andrew Scott ranting about peoples addiction to devices. There is also a sequence which seems to depict someone in a full-body VR suit playing some sort of ‘Street Fighter’ style game…

We’ll find out what it all means when ‘Black Mirror‘ Season 5 premieres on Netflix UK and around the world from Wednesday, 5th June 2019.
