Freeform Renews ‘Siren’ For Season 3, ‘The Bold Type’ For Season 4

At the Disney Upfront last night they announced US network Freeform has handed out a 3rd Season to mermaid drama Siren, and a 4th Season to fashion dramedy The Bold Type.

‘Siren‘ follows a mysterious and otherworldly girl who is wreaking havoc in Bristol Cove, a sleepy coastal town that legends say was once home to mermaids. Marine biologists Ben and Maddie must work together to find out who she is and what she wants. Could she be a mermaid, a primal hunter of the deep sea driven to land? And, if so, are there more out there?

In the current season, Ben and Maddie are uncertain about the mermaids’ future after the deadly consequences of the attack on the oil rig and, with the mermaids returning to sea, are left feeling lost without Ryn. Once Helen learns she’s not the only one of her kind, she discovers there is a dark side to her people’s past.

The series stars Eline Powell (‘Game of Thrones’), Alex Roe (‘The 5th Wave’), Fola Evans-Akingbola (‘Death in Paradise’), Ian Verdun and Rena Owen (‘Shortland Street’).

‘The Bold Type’ is inspired by the life of Joanna Coles, former Editor-in-Chief of fashion magazine Cosmopolitan and current Chief Content Officer of Hearst Magazines, and follows three 20-something women who work at Scarlet magazine. The rising generation of Scarlet women lean on one another as they find their own voices in a sea of intimidating leaders. Together, they explore sexuality, identity, love and fashion.

The series stars Katie Stevens (‘Faking It’) as Jane Sloan; Aisha Dee (‘Chasing Life’) as Kat Edison; Meghann Fahy (‘Political Animals’) as Sutton Brady; Sam Page (‘House of Cards’) as Richard Hunter; Matt Ward (‘Remedy’) as Alex Crawford; Melora Hardin (’17 Again’) as Jacqueline, Editor-In-Chief of Scarlet; Nikohl Boosheri (‘Altered Carbon’) as Adena; and Stephen Conrad Moore (‘The Path’) as Oliver.

“On ‘The Bold Type’, we play characters who are determined to succeed in the New York fashion media business,” commented the cast on stage at the Upfront. “We balance careers, friendship and love on the daily. But this show is so important to us and our fans because regardless of who you are, we are all just trying to navigate the mess of our lives. And we are so excited to be coming back for season 4! Here’s to more bold stories, friendship and a whole lot of rosé.”

Siren‘ premieres on Syfy in the UK, whilst ‘The Bold Type‘ premieres on Amazon Prime.
