Real-World Items That Would Be Great In Game Of Thrones

By now, millions of people across the world have made fun of that incredible coffee cup mistake in episode 4 of the latest and final Game of Thrones season. Although HBO has edited out the takeaway cup from the scene, it hasn’t stopped the incredulity that a show with such a hefty budget and thousands of people working on it somehow didn’t spot the error.

With that coffee cup on the mind, it got us thinking: what other real-world items could possibly find their way into a Game of Thrones episode? Perhaps this errant coffee cup was just the beginning…

Budget plane flights

Much has been made of the characters’ ability to get from one place to another at lightning speed, particularly in season 7 and season 8. While it’s much easier just to ignore the issue and not discuss it in the show, surely the explanation is simply a few well-positioned airports scattered around Westeros, Essos, and Sothoryos? Flying dragons are one thing, but it’s no match for a speedy EasyJet plane from the north to the south. Flights from Winterfell might get cancelled a lot due to bad weather, but hey, it sure beats taking a boat.

Luxury wristwatch

When you’ve got the army of the dead to fight, a forbidden romance, a villainous queen to dethrone, and hungry dragons to feed, it’s easy to lose track of time for a busy woman like Daenerys Targaryen. Sure, we can imagine her asking her advisor, Tyrion Lannister, for an update on the time, but we think it much more practical to have a fancy wristwatch hidden under the sleeve of her beautiful costume. Daenerys is obviously a well-dressed ruler and isn’t afraid of wearing a dragon brooch or two, so it doesn’t seem implausible that she’s picked out a nice Cartier watch with a silver strap to match her outfits.

Monopoly board game

Everyone in Game of Thrones is so darn competitive and eager to rule over everyone else (other than Jon Snow, perhaps), so it seems fitting that every castle would have Monopoly stored away in the games cupboard. It doesn’t feel like there’s an awful lot of entertainment to be had, especially not in the grim north, so what better game to squabble and fight each over than Monopoly? Of course, it’s incredulous that anyone in the fictional show would actually play such a board ga… what’s that? There’s already a Game of Thrones version of Monopoly? Well, carry on then.

Clip-on name tags

Because there are 8 million characters (more or less) on Game of Thrones, it can get a bit tricky to remember the names of anyone who doesn’t have something easy, such as Jon Snow or Hodor. If everyone walked around with a clip-on name tag, then surely it would benefit both them and the audience? Imagine finding out that you’ve been sending your raven letters with spellings like ‘Danerus Targerian’ all this time? It could save a lot of awkward meetings later on.
