‘How To Get Away With Murder’ To End With Upcoming 6th Season
It seems Shondaland has finally run out of ways of ‘How To Get Away With Murder‘, as they announce the upcoming 6th Season will be the last for the ABC drama. The decision was a production one by creator Peter Nowalk, not a cancellation by the network.
‘How To Get Away With Murder’ continues the story of Professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) and her associates and students who find themselves bound together by murder, deception, fear and guilt. Over the seasons, the series has used thought-provoking storytelling to bring societal issues to light, such as the right to a fair trial, racial inequalities in the justice system and mental illness.
“Viola Davis made television history with her unforgettable portrayal of iconic female antihero Annalise Keating,” commented Karey Burke, President, ABC Entertainment. “I am eternally grateful to her, Pete Nowalk and Shondaland for creating and bringing to life such a smart, sophisticated and groundbreaking series that has long been an integral part of Thursday nights on ABC.”
It seems a somewhat appropriate point to bring the drama to an end as the final season will also be the final semester in law school for her students. We won’t go into any more detail at this point, as Sky Witness has only recently started airing Season 5 in the UK, so we wouldn’t want to spoil anything!

Knowing I have 15 episodes left to finish her story, and the chance to give all the characters their own killer endings, is a gift rarely given to a series creator and I’m grateful to ABC and ABC Studios for the opportunity and creative freedom. I am so thankful to the brilliant cast, writers and crew for dedicating themselves to the most rewarding experience of my career over the last six years. I also want to thank our fans. The only reason this show exists is because of your loyalty and enthusiasm. ‘How To Get Away With Murder‘ Season 5 is currently airing on Sky Witness in the UK, with Season 6 expected to land in 2020 over here. In the US, Season 6 will premiere September 26, 2019 at 10pm on ABC.
