‘Designated Survivor’ Is Cancelled (Again) By Netflix

Designated Survivor has been designated dead, after Netflix opt not to pick up the drama for a 4th Season.

The series starred Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who was nominated as the “Designated Survivor” (i.e. a member of government kept separate from everyone in case there is a terrible accident) during the State Of The Union address. When an explosion in Washington kills the current President and entire cabinet, Tom is thrust into the top job as Commander In Chief, a position for which he’s woefully underprepared.

“We are proud to have offered fans a third season of Designated Survivor, and will continue to carry all three seasons for years to come,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re especially thankful to star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, who brought passion, dedication and an unforgettable performance as President Kirkman. We’re also grateful to showrunner/executive producer Neal Bear for his guiding vision and steady hand, creator/executive producer David Guggenheim and EPs Mark Gordon, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood and Peter Noah along with the cast and crew who crafted a compelling and satisfying final season.”

Although the show has always aired on Netflix in the UK, it originally aired on ABC in the US. ABC cancelled the drama last year, but it was rescued by the streaming service as a Netflix Original for a 10-episode 3rd season.

Unfortunately, this most likely means it is the last we have seen of Tom Kirkman and his white house staff… Although, it does mean Kiefer Sutherland is looking for a new gig, and Fox has been struggling to relaunch the ’24’ franchise… Just putting it out there…

You can catch all 3 seasons of ‘Designated Survivor‘ on Netflix UK.
