‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ Series In Development At Hulu From Carlton Cuse & Jason Fuchs
DON’T PANIC! – it seems Douglas Adams’ ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ could be returning to tv, as it is announced Hulu has put a new version of the classic sci-fi comedy in development from Carlton Cuse & Jason Fuchs.
As I’m sure most of you will know, ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ follows the misadventures of Arthur Dent, who is whisked away by his friend, Ford Prefect, just as the Earth is destroyed to make way for an intergalactic bypass. It turns out Ford was actually alien from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse and a researcher for the eponymous guidebook.
‘Hitchhiker’s Guide’ started life as a play for BBC Radio 4, but Adams went on to turn it into a series of extremely beloved novels. In the 80s, it was turned into an equally beloved tv series by the BBC, and more recently, a film version starring Martin Freeman.
This new iteration comes from Carlton Cuse & Jason Fuchs. Cuse is the creator of ‘Nash Bridges’ and showrunner on ‘Lost’, along with producing series such as ‘The Strain’, ‘Colony’ and ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’. Fuchs was the screenwriter for ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’. ABC Signature, the cable and streaming arm of ABC Studios, serves as the studio.
It’s an “interesting” mix of people to be putting together such an iconic British property, but the duo are said to be huge fans of the novels, according to Deadline, who broke the story. The reason it is Hulu developing this is due to Disney owning the ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide’ IP following the 2005 movie version.
At the moment, ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ tv-series is only in development, and Hulu have refused to comment, so we’ll let you know if it goes anywhere.
